Strong start to falling apart

The varsity volleyball team has had a long season, dealing with unexpected injuries, victories, and tough losses.
“I love the team and everyone on it, but we aren’t pulling it together for our games,” senior captain Miranda McNiven said.
The team has dealt with unexpected fallbacks this season.
“We have two players [who] are out for the rest of season now, which is really upsetting considering how important they were,” McNiven said.
Juniors Marisa Gonzalez and Skyleigh Chavez were both outside/right side hitters, without them at the ready, if either of the other two hitters, seniors Katie Thorington and Aubrey Kell, get injured, there are no other players to fill in at that position.
Although the team has lost two valuable players, they have still been able to achieve some victories this season. Early in the season they were able to beat Allen Park, one of their top rivals, and finished fourth in the league after Districts due to losses and inconsistent games.
“When we beat Allen Park, we really thought everything was going to go well for the rest of the year,” McNiven said. “Our low would definitely be when we lost to Trenton, and then couldn’t bounce back next game against Carlson.”
Although the team has experienced some big highs, its season has been on a downswing as of late.
“I feel like my first season has been very successful,” freshman Shantynae Atwater said. “Everyone on the team helped me and pushed me through any obstacles I [faced]...,”
The Bears have major goals for next year and will work hard to accomplish them.
“I want us to win districts next year and make it farther than we did this year,” junior Emma Sliwka said. “Overall, we had many bumps in the road. But at the end of the season we are really coming together to push through. Recently we’ve been coming together a lot more than we were in mid season. We fell apart, but we’re bringing it back together.”
