The music department celebrated another successful season with a band sweetheart game, announcing the winners for sweetheart and king cutie, and continuing their tradition of senior hug line.
Though the band sweetheart dance is not until December they take this time to show gratitude to the seniors during their competition season. This game capped off a fun filled week, with emotional goodbyes.
“It was awesome to be with all my friends… and to walk with Juju was just a blessing because she is such an amazing friend and person to have in my life,” senior Drum Major Noah Mac said.
The festivities started at halftime with the announcement of Band Sweetheart and King Cutie. Sweetheart was awarded to senior Juliana Palmer, and Mac took the title of King Cutie.
“I felt very honored and grateful that I was representing the band and was so happy to be chosen at Band Sweetheart. It will forever be a special memory,” Senior Juliana Palmer said.
The court was created last week and consisted of five boys and five girls. These representatives are said to be the best leaders and most influential band members. On this years court was Stephanie Besler, Gerald Scanland, Mikayla Joy, Devin Martin, Juliana Palmer, Noah Mac, Jade Parrish, Austin Frey, Natalie Walsh, and Ryan Reichow.
“The people on court they represent the music department in such a positive way...All of us look up to them as leaders,” junior Braylen Matulonis said.
After the awards the band took to the field to perform for the crowd. All band members performed so the court marched, played, danced, and conducted in their gowns and suits. Performances are traditionally followed by a conversation about their show, but on this special night the entire band gathered in the commons for their annual senior hug line.
During this emotional event all the seniors line up and band members walk down the line, lead by Mr. D’Angelo, and hug their peers as they say goodbye.
“I was thinking how this is it. I have been on the other side of this line for four years and finally being on the other side it is crazy how much seniors no matter whether you are a section leader, drum major, leader, or regular band member you make so much of an impact on the underclassmen,” King Cutie Noah Mac said.
