Seniors express their experiences on their last Band Sweetheart experience

This past Saturday the music department hosted their annual Band Sweetheart dance where choir, band and strings students came together to have a good time and make memories.
“ It’s something that brings us together as a department and I think that’s really important,” senior strings and color guard member Jade Parrish said.
It being the last year for the seniors to celebrate with all of the music community they had some expectations that were meet ten times over.
“My expectations for Band Sweetheart was for the dance to be a huge success, which I believe it was. From what I’ve heard, everyone who attended, from within or outside of the department, had a good time. Every year I continue to hold Band Sweetheart to high expectations, because it never fails to meet or [go] beyond my expectations,” senior Tri-M president Mikayla Joy said.
Mikayla’s statement about students who attended that were outside of the music department is proven through senior Wyatt Hurst.
“[I went to the dance with] my boyfriend Wyatt Hurst. It was really funny that he went with me because he’s told me for years he would never go to it. He went to it and told me right after that it was the best dance he ever went to,” Parrish said.
While everyone danced their hearts away they also made memories that they could reminisce on with family and friends in the future.
“My favorite memory from the dance would have to be right after bohemian rhapsody being sang, we all locked arms in a giant circle and swayed to the final song. Many people were crying tears of joy. It was a sign of unity, friendship and memories to be cherished forever,” senior strings student Issac McBride said.
As June 15 approaches some instrumental students are going to miss having a dance to look forward to every year.
“The thing I’m going to miss most about the dance once I graduate is the time I get to spend with my friends, my section, and the staff/volunteers,” Joy said, “it’s really hard to get everyone in the department together because of how many people are involved. Band Sweetheart is a gathering place for all of the music department students and staff to bond. I’m going to miss the sense of community the department creates.”
